The University welcomes international students to apply to the Pre-College Programs. International students make significant contributions to campus learning by fostering awareness of and respect for other cultures and by bringing unique perspectives into the classroom. Our Pre-College Counselors are prepared to help them adjust to a new culture, environment, and educational system.
“It’s always a nice plus to see a Pre-College Program experience on a student’s college application. It tells me the student has spent time on a US college campus and values learning year-round.”
-Executive Director for International Admissions
For international students applying to the Intensive Studies programs (Business Bootcamp, Explorations in Pathology, Hajim Engineering, Mini Medical School, Summer Research Institute, The Molecular Revolution: The Power of Genetics in the Stem Cell Era), applications must be submitted by the advertised deadlines of February 15 or March 1, 2020 to ensure all interviews are completed before applications are reviewed.
For Taste of College (credit courses), international students must submit their application by April 15, 2020 in order to allow enough time for admitted students to proceed with the F-1 visa process.
For any other programs, international students must adhere to posted deadlines and if accepted to the program, apply for a B-2 visitor/tourist visa.
International students may apply to any of our Pre-College Programs, including the Intensive Studies, Non-Credit Courses, and Credit Courses.
International students are encouraged to apply early. Your application will be reviewed and considered once all the required admission materials are received.
To be considered for admission, international students must complete and submit the following:
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores are an optional application item. For students who have taken the TOEFL, we would like to see a score of 100 or higher. For students who have taken the IELTS, we would like to see a score of 7.5 or highter.
All international students are required to interview with the Office of Pre-College Programs to determine your English ability and best fit for the program you are applying for. The University of Rochester Pre-College Programs partners with Duolingo and InitialView to provide interviewing opportunities. These interviews are primarily meant for applicants living outside the United States.
International and non-US citizens participating in the Pre-College Program are required to have health insurance that will cover medical expenses within the United States in the event of an emergency. Travels Insurance policies will not be accepted, as many do not cover medical expenses. Short-term health insurance may be available through Seven Corners, Inbound Guest: www.sevencorners.com.
