Handler Interviewing Event

Overview

Congratulations! The University of Rochester is pleased to invite you to the Handler Scholarship interviewing event on March 3–5, 2019. You are among a small group of students selected for an interview out of hundreds of highly qualified applicants. The interview is mandatory in order to be considered for the Handler Scholarship. Unfortunately, there are no alternative days for the interviews.

Travel Information

Arrival and departure times
Plan your travels to arrive on Sunday between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm and to depart on Tuesday after 12:00 pm.

Driving
If you are driving and using a GPS, please enter 252 Elmwood Avenue, Rochester NY 14611 as your destination. This will bring your to the main entrance of The University of Rochester.

Google Directions to Campus

When you arrive at the Elmwood Avenue entrance to campus, be sure to stop at the Visitor Parking and Information Booth (straight ahead, in the middle of the street) for instructions on where to park and how to get to the Office of Admissions in Wallis Hall. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early to ensure adequate time to park.

Flying
The University’s River Campus is about two miles from the Greater Rochester International Airport (airport code ROC). Commercial taxi service and car rental are available from the airport. Cab fare is approximately $10, depending on the number of people and luggage. Ride sharing services, such as Uber and Lyft, are also available.

Bus
The Rochester city buses stop at several locations on the River Campus as well as the Medical Center and Eastman campuses on all routes. For schedule and bus route information, visit the Rochester Transportation Services page.

Train
The Rochester Amtrak station is located at 320 Central Avenue. Taxi service and ride sharing services are available, and the station is located on the municipal bus line that serves the River Campus.

       9:30 am–12:30 pm Formal Handler interviews (30 mins each)

*Parents are welcome to join their student at these events.

Accommodations & Dress

Please bring a sleeping bag and pillow, a bath towel, dress clothes for your interview, warm clothes (including a jacket), and athletic apparel (if you plan to use the athletic facilities). A current UR student (in most cases a Handler Scholar) will host you in a residence hall. Because you are our guest, your meals and on-campus lodging are included at no charge during your visit. We recommend that you bring additional spending money for snacks, souvenirs, etc.
