The University of Rochester is now offering need-based financial aid to undergraduate students who are Mexican or Canadian natural born citizens*.
TYPES OF AID
MERIT SCHOLARSHIP AID
Merit-based scholarship recipients demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, talent, leadership, and potential. These awards are determined by the Admissions Office and are included in the calculation of all need-based financial aid packages.
NEED-BASED FINANCIAL AID
Eligibility is determined based upon the application materials submitted annually to our office. The most common financial aid programs are listed below:
- Grants
- Grant awards listed are estimated until your eligibility can be verified. Changes in eligibility after verification of the award may result in changes to your financial aid package.
- Rochester International Grant (RI): UR commits significant resources to need-based grant funding. Eligibility is based upon an assessment of your family's institutional need.
- Endowed: The RI grant is funded through hundreds of need-based endowed scholarships.
- Work Opportunities
- Institutional Employment: Campus employment is available to full-time students across the various departments at the University. Hours and pay rate vary across jobs; please see the Student Employment Office's website for job postings and application instructions. Students must complete an I-9 form to be eligible to work and are paid an hourly wage for work performed.
- Loans
- The University has loan funding available (University Loeser Loan) at a fixed interest rate to assist you in covering your college costs. These funds are limited and are awarded on the basis of your calculated need. Detailed information on the terms of these loans is sent under separate cover, with interest rates and repayment terms detailed.
OTHER FINANCIAL RESOURCES
The strength of the candidates who apply to the University often makes our applicants excellent candidates for outside scholarships. Be sure to look to family employers, local foundations and clubs or community agencies for scholarship opportunities. In addition, take advantage of resources provided by your guidance office, local library and the internet. Our "Related Sites" page includes links to multiple outside scholarship resources.
Information on additional financing options, including alternative student loans is also available on our "Related Sites" page or by contacting our office.
