This list of programs includes those administered by the Office of Admissions that specifically target or overlap with the University's outreach to the community.
1. Focus on Rochester (August 18, 2008)
This event offers an opportunity for community members and University of Rochester personnel to meet and discuss how we might better work together. This is an annual event to continue our partnership with the community for the betterment of Rochester youth.
2. YLA Free Football and Life Skills Camp (Canceled)
The University of Rochester has partnered with Youth Lifeline America to support and host their nationally recognized, award-winning camp that combines athletics and entertainment with life skills training to enhance the success rates of the City of Rochester's high school population. This camp utilizes current and retired National Football League players, celebrities, and business professionals to educate and inspire campers. The University of Rochester now offers a competitive $15,000 renewable scholarship for YLA students who enroll at the University.

3. Research Rochester Overnight
Held in early November, this program is designed especially for students from underrepresented communities which may be experiencing life on a college campus for the first time. RRO attendees enjoy a special question and answer panel with the Office of Admissions, followed by an ice cream social, and an overnight stay on campus. The following day, students join other visiting students for Research Rochester.
4. Pre-college Preparation Workshops (January 10, 2009)
The Pre-college Preparation Workshops is for youth (grades 4-11)and their caregivers in the cities of Rochester, Syracuse, and Buffalo. The event offers workshops on financial aid, the college essay, interviewing, and resume-building. By involving institutions of higher education from across Western New York, we hope to educate participants on the college application process. This event concludes with a college fair.
5. Soy Unica, Soy Latina (March 7, 2009)
This program brings 300-500 young Latinas (4th-12th grades) and their families to the campus for a day of celebration, classes on life skill development, and career and college access, etc. The event also includes workshops for parents. This is a partnership program with the Latinas Unidas organization and their vast community network.
6. Campus Discovery Search (Spring)
This on-campus informational scavenger hunt engages younger populations (grades 4-8) by assisting them, in a structured environment, to interact with the University. The goal is to educate these younger students about what a campus looks like, how college students live, what opportunities exist for study, etc. Campus Discovery Search is the primary program for our younger visitors.
7. National Hispanic Institute - Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Session (July 12-20, 2008)
The LDZ focuses on the organization and management of power as a foundational tool of leadership. This flagship program of the NHI offers students the opportunity to envision themselves as part of the future leadership of a 21st century Latino community. LDZ participants are also considered for a scholarship.
8. UR @ Frontier Field - the Rochester Red Wings vs. the Toledo Mud Hens (July 24, 2008)
Students and families in attendance will have the opportunity to meet Admissions counselors throughout the game. Jonathan R. Burdick, Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid, will be throwing out the first pitch and welcoming students to the game.
