Combined Degrees

The following programs all require you to submit an additional application when you apply to the University. Sounds like a lot of work, but it's not too bad when you consider that 3 of the 5 programs combine undergraduate and graduate studies into a single admissions process. In other words, if you're admitted to the special program as an undergraduate, you're also admitted to the graduate school automatically.

List of Combined Degrees

REMS (Rochester Early Medical Scholars)
An eight-year B.A./B.S.-M.D. program for exceptionally talented undergraduates. Admission to the REMS program is highly competitive. Enrollment has been limited to ten students each year since its inception in fall of 1991. Students accepted to REMS are also accepted to the School of Medicine and Dentistry upon completion of the bachelor's degree while meeting GPA requirements.
REBS (Rochester Early Business Scholars)
A six-year B.A./B.S.-M.B.A. program for exceptional undergraduates. REBS students enter the University of Rochester with an assurance of admission into the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration (located with the College on our river campus) upon successful completion of the bachelor's degree. The program is designed to provide academic enrichment rather than acceleration in preparing undergraduates for their business education and career.
GRADE (Guaranteed Rochester Accelerated Degree in Education)
A five-year B.A./B.S.+M.S. in Education program for students admitted to the University of Rochester who are interested in becoming educators. GRADE students enter the University with an assurance of admission to the Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development with the Steven Harrison quarter-tuition scholarship for all five years. The program is designed to offer students a quality liberal arts education while also preparing them to become educators.
GEAR (Graduate Engineering At Rochester)
Students can accelerate and complete their master's degree in engineering and applied sciences in our 3-2 B.S./M.S. program. The GEAR program provides selected students with an assurance of admission into one of seven engineering master's programs at the University of Rochester School of Engineering and Applied Sciences: Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering or Optics. GEAR students will receive a 50% tuition award in their fifth year of study in the form of a teaching assistantship. To remain eligible GEAR students are required to maintain a 3.3 GPA through the first seven semesters (3.5 for Optics). Applicants for this program will have demonstrated strong aptitude for engineering throughout their high school academic and co-curricular activities.
Eastman Double-Degree Program
Some students wish to pursue both a bachelor of music degree at the Eastman School of Music and a bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree within the College. The fact that Eastman is a school within the University of Rochester makes this possible.
