To begin a career in engineering, you'll need both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree, which would typically take at least six years of college. Admission to the master's program usually requires a strong score on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT).
The Graduate Engineering at Rochester (GEAR) program allows you to skip the exam and accelerate your education, earning both your bachelor's and master's degrees in just five years. When accepted to the GEAR program as an undergraduate, you're also given assurance of admission to the University's Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (located right on Rochester's main campus) in one of nine master's programs:
GEAR students serve as teaching assistants during their final year, which pays for 75% of tuition. The program also provides advising by GEAR mentors, plenty of opportunities for research and internships, and access to first-rate research facilities.

Master's Program in BME: This student would have completed two courses towards his/her master's degree during his/her senior year; the rest of the credits needed (22-24) could be divided among the summer, fall, and spring semesters after senior year to complete the master's degree. All GEAR students should speak with Kelly Johnson and their faculty advisor to plan out their own schedule.
